This invention covers a transgenic mouse whose neural and pancreatic stem and progenitor cells are genetically tagged with GFP, which enables in vivo analysis of pluripotency and self-renewal activity of nerve stem and progenitor cells. The transgenic mouse contains a DNA construct consisting of a neural enhancer region, which is transcriptionally active only in neural stem and progenitor cells, driving the expression of the green fluorescent protein, GFP.
