- Ultrasound imaging or sonography is a non invasive method for acquiring images from inside the human body utilizing high-frequency sound waves. Ultrasound imaging is routinely used in obstetrics and gynecology, but also finds other biomedical imaging applications including, for example; examination of pelvic and abdominal organs as well as heart and blood vessels. Ultrasound images can be markedly enhanced in combination with contrast agents; However, current ultrasound techniques and common contrast agents do not overcome some inherent limitations of current practice. The methods of the invention expand the utility of on invasive ultrasound techniques, providing analytical capability, exquisite sensitivity and analyte specificity.
