-
Nagoya University researchers have found that mitochondrial DNA polymerase (mtDNA polymerase) of plasmodium faciparum malaria requires a bivalent iron ion (Fe2+) for its activity and that it is heat-resistant and most active around 70 Γäâ. Researchers established the method to calculate the activity of mtDNA polymerase by using Fe2+, mtDNA polymerase, template DNA, and dNTP. This method could be used to screen new compounds to identify potential anti-malarial drug that inhibits DNA synthesis.
