Novel Polyprenylated Benzoylphloroglucinols with Anticancer Activity
- Summary
- This invention is to provide two new polyprenylated benzoylphloroglucinol derivatives, garciesculentones A and C (compounds 1 and 2), which exhibited cytotoxicity and antimigration effect against the tested human cancer cell lines and have potential to be developed as anticancer drugs.
- Technology Benefits
- Those novel compounds may have potential to be developed as anticancer drugs.
- Technology Application
- Those novel compounds may have potential to be developed as anticancer drugs.
- Detailed Technology Description
- The petroleum ether extract and the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the 80% (v/v) EtOH extract of Garcinia esculenta were found to show cytotoxicity against a panel of human cancer cell lines (SMMC-7721, HepG2, MCF-7, and MDA-MB-231). With bioassay-guided fractionation, two novel polyprenylated benzoylphloroglucinol derivatives, garciesculentones A and C (compounds 1 and 2) were isolated from these two bioactive fractions. The structures of new compounds were elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses and mass spectrometry. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited cytotoxicity against the tested human cancer cell lines. Moreover, these compounds had antimigration effect on ECA109 cells in the absence of cytotoxicity.
