Direct Conversion of Human Skin Fibroblast into Neurons Using Faster and Cheaper Alternative
- Technology Benefits
- Faster conversion method, Does not need generation of iPSCs nor neurotrophic factors, Lower production cost
- Detailed Technology Description
- Our inventors have developed a modified protocol to convert human skin fibroblast into neurons using readily available medium from the vendor. These neurons aredirectly converted without going through iPSCs and without using any expensive neurotrophic factors. In addition to the lower cost, we have also seen reduction intime (6-8 days post selection) to obtain induced neurons in culture. This method will be crucial in advancing the development of ex-vivo assays to help discover new therapies for AlzheimerΓÇÖs disease.
- *Abstract
-
Researchers at the University of South Florida have developed a novel method to obtain neurons from fibroblast in half the time previously reported. This newly discovered method will expedite personalized medicine approaches for AlzheimerΓÇÖs disease and possibly many other neurodegenerative diseases.
