*Abstract

This microporous, polymeric membrane can be used flat or made into highly controlled microscale three-dimensionally shaped surfaces to simulate living membrane, such as villi. This membrane can also be integrated into multi-organ cell culture systems and “body-on-a-chip” devices.

This invention offers several notable improvements over similar membrane technologies.

Potential Commercial Applications

  • In vitro models of human barrier tissues to simulate drug absorption and uptake
  • Drug screeningIntegration with microfluidic and/or multi-organ cell culture systems
  • Integration with non-microfluidic systems
  • Cancer and other disease research
