A Prion-Like Form of CPEB and Related Compositions and Methods
- Summary
 - Lead Inventors: Eric KandelMethods for determining whether an agent facilitates the conversion of a cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding (CPEB) protein from its non-prion form to its prion form are described. Methods for determining the presence and amount of the prion form of CPEB protein in a cell are also proposed. The method provides a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that facilitates the conversion of a CPEB protein from its prion form to its non-prion form, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The method is vital in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, especially those that involve transmissible spongiform encephalopathies.
