-
This is a new method of using oxidative stress as a biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases. The technology analyzes early oxidative modifications-protein disulfide formation-in histological samples. In particular, this technology allows detection of oxidation of specific protein targets in specific cell sub-types (i.e. neurons vs. glia). Therefore, it provides an invaluable tool to study and define new potential biomarkers to develop new clinical tools for neurodegenerative diseases. Applications1) Diagnose neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Diseases2) Follow neurodegenerative disease progression3) Monitor effects of antioxidant therapies Advantages 1) Reliable biomarker to monitor neurodegenerative disease progression and treatment efficacy2) Allows for the visualization of oxidation in fixed cells and tissues3) Reproducible methodology with reliable internal controls Stage of DevelopmentTested in animal and human tissuesPCT patent application filed.
