The HF ignition does not generate the spark via an arc but through a high-frequency plasma. A high-frequency pulse passes through the spark plug into the combustion chamber and generates a plasma there.
Larger burning volume
Longer ignition duration
Cleaner combustion, less fumes
Reduction of gasoline consumption
Optimization of performance
Engine Technology, Ignition Systems
The HF ignition does not generate the spark via an arc, but through a high-frequency plasma. A high-frequency pulse passes through the spark plug into the combustion chamber and generates a plasma there. The high frequency pulse is generated with an electronic circuit which is externally attached to the spark plug. The HF spark plug can be chosen much more flexible in shape than a conventional spark plug.
