Detailed Technology Description
Flaviviral infections represent a significant global health risk and can severely damage the central nervous system. Vaccines are available for some of the flaviviruses, but only a small part of the population is vaccinated, mostly due to the vaccines` prices. Furthermore, effective antivirotics against most of the flaviviral infections are not available. In the case of tick-borne encephalitis, only supportive treatment is available; interferons (a group of cytokines) can be used in severe infections. One of the options for treatment of flaviviral infections could be the plant-derived molecules stilbenes, primarily resveratrol and its analogues, such as its glycated form piceid and its oligomer viniferin. One of the drawbacks of the use of stilbenes is that it does not show satisfactory results in prophylaxis and treatment of flaviviral infections.This utility model shows the use of a combination of stilbenes with interferon for treatment and prophylaxis of infections caused by the tick-borne encephalitis virus. Antiviral effects were shown for a combination of interferons with all three tested stilbenes – resveratrol, piceid, and viniferin.
