Method of Diagnosing AlzheimerΓÇÖs Disease using Biomarkers
Patients can be treated early, possibly before cognitive symptoms are evident Provides more consistent and reliable data for relative protein quantification
detection of biomarkers for AlzheimerΓÇÖs disease
Our researchers have created a process for diagnosing, treating and determining pathology of AlzheimerΓÇÖs disease using novel biomarkers in the patientΓÇÖs own dermal fibroblasts. Once diagnosed using these newly identified biomarkers, patients can be treated early, possibly before cognitive symptoms are evident. A method of detecting biomarkers for AlzheimerΓÇÖs disease was also developed that uses SILAC-based proteomic analysis and mass spectrometry. This technique compared protein expression profiles of APP , rat neuronal-like B103 cells to B103-695 cells that express the APP isoform APP-695 in order to identify several proteins with potential implications in AD pathology. Protein expression levels may also indicate increased progression of the disease.
