Researchers at the University of South Florida have demonstrated that N-thiolated -lactams (initially developed for use as antibiotics) have a significant inhibitoryeffect on the proliferation of multiple solid tumor cell lines.Currently, many anti-cancer therapies are directed at inducing apoptosis (celldeath), but those therapies also induce apoptosis of normal cells. Our N-thiolated-lactam technology, and analogs under development, have the ability to induce DNA damage in cancer cell lines, while preserving normal cells.
