Catalyst-functionalized catalytic particles that increase the mass transfer rate of solvents used in acid gas cleanup - 2061

*Abstract

Overview

Thecleanup of acid gasses, such as CO2, from natural gas has been anextensively practiced technology.  While several technologies exist for theremoval of acid gasses, one of the most commonly employed practices is the useof aqueous amines. The application of CO2capture to post-combustion flue gas separation has recently been an areaof major concern.  In the long term, it is thought that this technology will becritical to reducing emissions from fossil fuel combustion potentially responsiblefor climate change.  UK researchers are developing a more efficient methodto remove CO2 from fossil fuel boiler flue gas using entrained particleadditives in liquid solvents.

Invention

UK researchers are developing a method related to a more efficientremoval of CO2 from fossil fuel boiler flue gas. The entrained particles inliquid solvent perform as liquid film turbulence enhancer, resulting in both areduction in the boundary layer thickness and an increase in CO2 molecules andsolvent active component diffusion.

Advantages

  • efficient
  • lowers capital cost
  • high carbon loading
