This new treatment is meant to help patients suffering from both alcohol use and psychiatric disorders. - Alcohol use disorder is a chronic relapsing condition that includes alcohol withdrawal syndrome and is frequently comorbid with chronic pain disorders and mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. There are only a few drugs approved to treat alcohol use disorder. Their only goal is to reduce alcohol cravings. They do not treat psychiatric disorders.
