Method and Apparatus for Gender Selection Based on PH

Detailed Technology Description
The present invention includes methods and apparatus to numerically enhance semen populations with cells of one sex as to increase the chances of having an offspring of the desired sex.  Sperm cells in a populations are exposed to different pH values and the exposure allows mobile sperm cells to migrate to different pH environments.  Theses cell are then collected according to their X or Y chromosome characteristics and used in artificial insemination to influence the sex of the offspring.     Reference Number:  D-0560 Features, Benefits & Advantages:Improved consistency in animal herds with lower management costs Significantly lower costs than flow cytometry techniques for sex selectionFast, safe and effective method to influence sex of offspring   Stage of Development:Technology has been field tested in bulls and pigs with a 60% effective rate with a production cost of about $2.50 per device.  It is believed with additional research and mass production the results can be enhanced and the costs further reduced.   Intellectual Property:U.S. patent 9,157,063 issued on 10/13/2015.  An Australiian patent has also issued and an application in the EU is still pending.  Primary Investigators:Samuel Prien, PhD, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, TX Dr. Lindsey Penrose, PhD,  Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, TX  Key Words:Sex Selection, Artificial Insemination, Flow Cytometry, X and Y Chromosome Separation, pH, Sperm Motility
