OSU researchers have developed a low (solar) powered portable mesh networked sensor array for detection of carbon dioxide and methane. The invention can be adapted to sensing other gases as well. Critical features are that this sensor can self-assemble into a mesh; can store the data in a hierarchical data storage manner which enables power cycling and power recovery; and can operate in harsh conditions. The OSU invention has benefits over existing sensor systems in that it is lower cost, does not require a fixed power source, does not require controlled environments, can store the data internally, and can later transmit the data via conventional methods (cellular or radio) to the cloud.
