*Abstract

Interfacial phase ring-opening polymerizations of α-amino-acid derived N-thiocarboxyanhydrosulfides (NTAs) using soluble primary amine initiators have been demonstrated to produce the corresponding polypeptides in a controlled manner under mild conditions. The NTAs monomers were shown to have significantly enhanced moisture stability relative to their analogous N-carboxyanhydrides (NCA), resulting in long shelf-life and allowing the interfacial phase ring-opening polymerizations to proceed in open air.
