- *Abstract
-
Cornell researchers from the Department of Physics have developed a device that enables users to measure shear forces while simultaneously imaging the sample. By imaging the sample at high magnification, cells can be tagged as markers. As the sample is being mechanically deformed, displacement of the markers is measured over time using particle image velocimetry (PIV). Using this data, researchers can create shear displacement, strain, and modulus profiles for biological samples.
