*Abstract

Apple Rootstock GENEVA(R) 'G.16' is very precocious, similar to or better than M.9. High productivity in initial test orchard. Fruit size is adequate and no fruit quality problems have been noted. Moderate support required. Highly resistant to fire blight. Susceptible to woolly apple aphid. Early leaf fall and light suckering. Burrknots are rare. Hypersensitive to at least one latent virus, only virus free budwood should be used with this rootstock. G.16 appears to be a very highly productive dwarfing rootstock with excellent fire blight resistance that may challenge M.9.
