*Abstract

A universal ligand that incorporates metals and bioorganic molecules into a metal-silica-bioorganic hybrid. This ligand facilitates a one-molecule, one-step approach to silica hybrids with combinations of biological, catalytic, magnetic, and optical functionalities. The use of a single-source precursor provides a flexible route for simultaneously incorporating many different types of functional species, allowing many biological functionalities to be built into silica hybrids. The ligands can coordinate with a wide range of metals, thereby allowing direct incorporation of inorganic functionalities. This simplified route will enable a vast range of functionalized silica products and technologies.

Potential Commercial Applications

  • Preparation of catalyst and catalyst support
