-
Dr. Brian Cunningham has developed a novel biosensing technology that provides extremely high contrast for each miRNA molecule in a single-droplet test sample. This solves the current problems of complex assay protocols, high costs, and the especially large size of current state-of-the-art ultrasensitive assay technologies. The core technology is the method of using an optical absorber for the resonant wavelength of the photonic crystal to form a peak intensity value image. Professor Cunningham is currently working on developing a portable version comprised of inexpensive, commercially-available optical components that can be assembled into a compact desktop system.
Benefits
- Provides extremely high contrast for each miRNA molecules in a single-droplet test sample.
- Can detect analytes that are present in a test sample at extremely low concentrations
