Background:Modulating fear memory provides treatments for certain anxiety disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. The way to do this is to effectively modify cognitive function and brain activity.
Description: Researchers at UC Riverside have invented methods that specifically screen and modify the brain function of an individual. They have targeted the area in the brain that is distinctive to fear memories, the prefrontal cortex, and provided ways to administer compounds and test for changes in brain function. The UCR Office of Technology commercialization believes the researchers' methods have potential in fear memory conditioning and treatment for a number of anxiety related disorders.
