Title: Adhesive microstructure and method of forming same
Usefulness: Adhesive microstructure and method of forming same
Summary: The fabricated adhesive microstructure can be used as tape, fasteners, or toys. It can also be used for removal of microscopic particles from semiconductor wafers, transporting fiber optic devices, and assembly of sum-mm mechanisms, particularly those including micro-fabricated components or components that can not tolerate regular grippers, adhesives, or vacuum manipulators. It can also be used for manipulating retinal prosthesis implants/explants, attaching to nerves during surgery, and pick and place of silicon wafers or disk drive components. It may be used as clutch mechanisms in micromachines.
Novelty: Fabricated adhesive microstructure for use e.g., as tape, comprises protrusions, each capable of providing specified parallel adhesive force at surface, flexible shaft to support the protrusions, and flexible beam
