These are ideal for use in devices designed for radiation detection, electronics, and as gemstones. Current methods are limited to the production of wafers up to 10 mm maximum diameter. This new method can produce wafers up to 8 inches. Ability to produce these large format wafers on a large scale by means of a novel epitaxial technique will enable the next generation of single crystal diamond sensors, electronic devices, and gemstones.
