A Novel Technique for Analog and Mixed Signal Processing
- Technology Application
- The market for analog and mixed signal devices is one of the fastest growing segments for semiconductors. Driven by medical and wireless applications, device complexity continues to increase. As a consequence, the testing of these devices will become a roadblock. Not only is throughput an issue, the actual test routines may become unmanageable. Although built in self test structures are an attractive solution, the power/size constrains will limit its application. This time based processing approach offers a design path to overcome these limitations. This approach can be implemented with low power CMOS circuits; a low resolution TDC (dynamic power) rather than a high resolution ADC (static power) in addition to power savings, also provide space savings for layout and improvements for overall device speeds and jitter performance. The increased speed performance will allow designers to continue with silicon devices rather than migrate to more expensive III-V materials.
