Air-assisted accelerator for low-pressure liquid chromatography (AAA-LPLC)
- Summary
- OSU researchers have created a compact air-assistedaccelerator device that converts common laboratory air valve supply into aclean and regulated pressure source. Addinga pressure source to low-pressure liquid chromatography columns speeds upsolvent flow, resulting in equally pure samples within a much shorter timeframe, thereby increasing production speed. Thisversatile device can be used for protein purification using affinity, ionexchange, desalting, and other chromatography methods.

- *Background
- In chemical and bioprocessing industries, theisolation of pure products from complex compounds is often a necessary step inthe production line. Chromatographycolumns are filter systems that use a particle’s natural migration rate toseparate mixtures of chemicals or proteins into pure, individual products for purposesof identification or extraction. Commonindustrial uses include protein separation, insulin purification, plasmafractionation, and drug development. Thisprocess is relatively effective but quite slow.
