- Lead Inventors: Georgios EllinasA system for an automatic protection switching system that protects against link or node failure in a network is described The system coprises a network of nodes and links. Each link is composed of a pair of working data lines carrying traffic in opposite directions. The network nodes contain center switches which connect sets of working lines into paths carrying traffic. When a fault is detected the protection switches connect sets of protection lines into pre-assigned "protection paths".The system provides a fault recovery system that ensures that the data is properly routed to its destination in the event of a fault in a link.
