Methods and Devices for Performing Micro-assays

IP Title
Microvolume immunoabsorbant assays with amplified electrochemical detection
Detailed Technology Description
There is a need for performing assays on very small volumes of analyte fluid, and the issued patents listed below provide both devices and methods of doing just that.  By using individually addressable electrode layers, separated by insulating layers, and surrounding a microcavity, an assay device structure has been invented that can be used to rapidly analyze very small volumes without the use of a laboratory with attendant long wait times.  This structure, ideal for use in Lab-On-A-Chip applications, can provide a platform for the analysis of very small quantities of analyte fluid, as small as 200 nanoliters in the case of immunoassays.  Alkaline phosphatase, used in both ELISA type assays, and in polynucleotide assays, can be detected in 30 seconds. In addition to immunoassays such as ELISA, the methods and structure revealed in the issued patents can also be used to detect DNA, as well as microorganisms.  One of the significant advantages of the invention is the ability to determine whether or not bacteria are alive or dead.  This is especially useful in water treatment facilities. The issued patents that cover the invention are;US 7,348,183, US 7645,615 and 6,887,714.These patents are available for license form the University of Arkansas.  For more information please contact;Mark Swaney479-575-7243mswaney@uark.edu
