STOP-Bang Tool
- Detailed Technology Description
- Aninnovative clinical tool for screening patients with obstructive sleep apnea
- *Abstract
-
Obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) is the most prevalent sleep-breathing disturbance, affecting 24% of menand 9% of women in the general population. An estimated 82% of men and 92% of women with moderate-to severe OSAhave not been diagnosed.
Investigators at UHN havedeveloped a clinical tool that enables a physician to screen patients with OSA(www.stopbang.ca). The set of specific questions are well designed to identifypatients that can be impacted by apnea. This tool may be used in pre-surgicalscreening of patients, as well as used in a general assessment.
