Prof Mani Golparvar-Fard, Mohammad Sadeghi and Vahid Balali have developed a computer-vision based technique to measure retro-reflectivity during daytime using a vehicle mounted device.The algorithms simulate nighttime visibility of traffic signs from images taken during daytime. This technique is faster, cheaper, and safer than the state-of-the-art methods and does not require nighttime operation of manual sign inspection.
