Detailed Technology Description
Scientists have discovered a new solid-state method to synthesize carbo-nitride powders that challenge the hardness of diamond. The new solid-state synthesis is able to produce significant quantities of amorphous carbo-nitride alpha-C3N4 and substituted carbo-nitrides. This new solid-state synthesis process results in material with the proper stoichiometry without impurities. The new compound is the basis for materials having diamond-hard surfaces, useful in microchip applications, data storage, refined tools and a broad range of appliances that are prone to wear, erosion and tension, including synthetic lubricants.
