Optical Frequency Comb Generation Using Controllable Mode Interaction


Summary

Researchers at Purdue University have developed a novel method to control the dynamics of comb generation. This new method can be used to achieve broadband mode locking, repetition rate tuning, and tailoring the spectrum shape of the frequency comb. In addition, this method can be applied to microresonators with either anomalous or normal dispersion and is especially useful when the microresonator has normal dispersion. Given normal dispersion is easy to access by most currently available nonlinear materials, the proposed method is important to real applications.
