- Fast and accurate identification of cancerous tissue in the operating room is critical if we hope to lower the risk of reoccurrence and shorten the recovery time for patients. Intrasurgical diagnostic methods have proven to be the most effective tools in this fight. Current biopsy methods involve removing a tissue sample and examination by a pathologist. The pathologist's evaluation is sent back to the surgeon to inform if there is a need for further resectioning. This process is not only time consuming, but costly, in the event that multiple samples must be taken.
