Multiple-Access Interference Suppression for OFDM Systems

Summary
Researchers at Purdue University have developed a method to change the historical disadvantages of the Doppler Shifts into benefits. This method exploits Doppler Shifts caused by motion, which ultimately allows more information to be conveyed in a communication network. This performance increase is achieved by adding only a very small amount of structure to transmitted signals. This method applies to wireless multiple access systems.

*Abstract

*Background
The economics of personal communication systems and cellular communications are driven by the ability to convey as much information as possible using a limited radio frequency bandwidth. More effective signal designs provide the ability to reach more customers. Various forms of signaling diversity have been used to increase the capacity; however, the diversity of motion has not been exploited. In the past, Doppler Shift Effects have been problems that were compensated for in communication systems. Hence, circuits have been developed to compensate for the Doppler shifts that result from motion.
