- *Abstract
 -
Northwestern University researchers have developeda hot pressing method for producing patterned transistors and circuits. Thesedevices can then be integrated into flexible electronics with a wide range ofapplications- from wearable consumer products to implantable medical devices. Onedrawback of alternative methodologies is that they have never been used onpatterned substrates. This innovative method from the Marks group will enable depositionof thin film dielectrics onto patterned substrates without loss of insulatingcharacteristics, dielectric strength or smooth surface morphology. Importantly, this hot pressing method is inexpensive, scalable and utilizes low fabricationtemperatures, which makes it compatible with plastic substrates. Due to thesefavorable characteristics, this novel technology could opennew routes for fabricating printed electronics.
