*Abstract

Organic semiconductors have successfully been used to generate electronic, optical, or optoelectronic devices. To be viable for commercial application, however, the manufacture of these entities needs to be highly feasible and cost-effective – features that have proven somewhat elusive in production involving organic semiconductor materials. Northwestern investigators have developed polymeric and molecular semiconductors using a variety of formulas that exhibit good semiconductor performance in addition to manufacturing feasibility advantages, such as solution processability. The materials produced can be used to fabricate a variety of devices with organic semiconductor capabilities, such as photovoltaic devices, transistors, and light-emitting diodes.
