- *Abstract
-
Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters are often inserted in patients to prevent deep vein thrombus from migrating to the lung and causing a potentially life threatening pulmonary embolism. Occasionally, tissue from the inferior vena cava adheres to the filter making it difficult to remove. A Northwestern inventor has invented a novel device to enhance removal of difficult-to-retrieve IVC (inferior vena cava) filters and other implanted devices, such as pacing leads. Current solutions include using a laser which is expensive and can lead to further complications if misapplied
