- Detailed Technology Description
- SpeculativeRemote Display eliminates network round-trip time in remote displaysystems. Remote display systems allow adistant user to control a computer or application with a graphical userinterface.
- *Abstract
-
Remote displaysystems are increasingly being used over wide-area networks where round triplatencies are inherently much higher and vary greater than are those inlocal-area networks. This new technologyfrom Northwestern eliminates network round-trip time for remote display systemsby predicting the screen update events that the server will send and thenapplying them to the screen immediately. Incorrectly predicted events are immediately reversed when the actualevents arrive from the server without a net gain or loss in round-triplatency. Speculative Remote Displayworks with existing wide-area network infrastructure because it does notrequire server or protocol changes.
