Market Opportunities

There is currently a risk of ingestion of dentalimplant drivers while patients undergo dental implant related procedures. This problemcauses dentists to go through additional procedures to insure safety for theirpatients. Dr. Jang-Ching Chou, a University of Louisville Professor in theDepartment of Oral Health and Rehabilitation invented this technology toaddress those issues, which are experienced by dental professionals whileperforming implant procedures. The commercial purposes of this technology maybe marketed as a device which prevents ingestion and aspiration. Further, thistool is multi-functional and capable of incorporating different implant systems. 

       

Technology

Thistechnology has the potential to become an in innovative tool for dentalsurgeons. Currently, dentists use a makeshift mechanism of dental flossligation around the implant driver to prevent swallowing. This technology (Figure1) improves upon current technology with four key features; a torque wrenchfitting head, a crevice for inserting a tool piece (driver head), a rotatingcomponent, and a flexible material. Thedesign of the driver head allows for total movement without risk of ingestionby the patient. The design of this technology allows the clinician to utilizeone torque wrench / driver kit for various office uses.
