- Gene42 Inc. is a start-up medical technology and clinicalsoftware company that develops clinical software tools for collecting andanalyzing phenotypic information for patients with genetic disorders. The solution,PhenoTips, was built from the ground up as a first class solution for theproblems most commonly faced by clinical geneticists. PhenoTips allows doctorsto record data on patients with genetic disorders in standardized formats,which makes it much easier to record symptoms or genetic and physical features,facilitates automated searches of annotated genes and disease databases(automates suggestions for differential diagnosis), enables effortless queryingand sharing of anonymized patient data, helps doctors make a proper diagnosis,order medical tests, find other patients with similar disorders (based ongenetics or symptoms) and predict risk. PhenoTipshas a user-friendly interface with advanced features that reduces clinician’sworkload and seamlessly integrates into established clinical work flows andsystems that may be used at a given hospital. Dataorganization when it comes to patient care is critical, especially in geneticdiseases when certain symptoms or features of a disease might not be seen on aregular basis. In the age of “big data” and electronic health records, we aimto make personalized medicine more effective for patients and their doctors.
