Provides for continuous and selective, gas-phase synthesis of single-walled carbon nanotubes having a narrow distribution of diameter and/or chirality. Low-cost production of nanoparticles with diameters of less than 5 nms using specific catalysts of NiFe-based compounds enhance production, and further optimization of reactor design and process parameters should permit synthesis of high-yield and high-purity single-, double-, and higher order multi-walled CNT structures in a single process.
