-
The invention applies to low power resonant acoustic fields to solids having high porosity and large pore sizes. These acoustically driven porous media are used to filter fine solids from flowing suspensions. In laboratory tests, particles up to 500 times smaller than the size of pores within the media have been entrapped with a high rate of efficiency. Upon removal of the acoustic field, the particles are readily flushed from the porous material. This invention has the potential to perform a variety of fluid-particle separations more economically than conventional techniques (cyclone separators, centrifuges) currently having widespread use in the chemical processing industries. Technology is embodied by two issued patents, US-6,221,258 and US-6,797,158.
