-
Li-ion cells, as used in prior-art, continue to have poor material utilization even in cellsdesigned for high energy density. Current electrodes, mainly due to lack of appropriatethickness, are associated with low volume and mass efficiency apart from high cost. Useof thicker electrodes has proved to be worse as they lead to increased diffusionpathways, limiting delivery of stored energy to mere fractions. There have also beenreports about increasing electrode porosity. However, even such methods have theirown drawbacks. The most important one being reduced energy density. This inventionrelates to a novel technique for development and use of low tortuous battery electrodes, capable of overcoming most prior-art limitations and/or unmet needs.
