BackgroundA significant limitation for medicine particularly treatments given by intravesical route (via catheter into bladder), is the poor permeability of the bladder to outside agents. Efficient cellular uptake of many chemical agents is still a challenge. Several approaches have been tried, but all have limitations.TechnologyThe innovators developed a means for intravesical drug delivery by which specific drug-carrier compositions wherein the drug is a therapeutic oligonucleotide and the carrier is a commercially available protamine injection solution.ApplicationThe invention bodes particularly well for localized use, particularly intravesical instillation in the approved dose range for delivery therapeutic oligonucleotides in treatment of interstitial cystitis, overactive bladder.AdvantagesThe drug carrier is easy to make and easy to use, thus avoiding cumbersome other steps required by many others. The invention is particularly good for localized delivery of therapeutic oligonucleotides in treatment of overactive bladderProtamine is highly stable, well characterized and does not require complicated techniques and organic solvents for formulation prior to use in clinic or animalsDrug carrier is safe on human use and naturally occurring in male gametes of fish and mammalian speciesStage of DevelopmentIn vivoPCT Application Filed
