Myopia Prevention and Treatment

Detailed Technology Description
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) researchers are designing new spectacles that may prevent the onset, as well as decrease the progression, of myopia in children and young adults. These novel spectacles are designed to reduce eye tension during reading or near task work. This design aims to prevent the development and progression of myopia, which adversely affects the quality of life in children and young adults with this condition.Current treatments include pharmacological agents, ophthalmic corrective lenses and laser refractive surgery. However, spectacles are often the initial treatment for children with myopia because they provide clear vision with few difficulties. This technology provides a novel intervention to potentially delay the progression of myopia in children and young adults. An opportunity exists for industry players to partner with bluebox to translate this promising technology from an initial prototype to a commercial product. Industry partners may wish to engage the technical expertise that exists at QUT to optimise this technology for their specific requirements.
