Flexible Coating
- Technology Benefits
- Right now there are three methods for coating: deep coating, spray coating and spin coating; but there are some limitations for building the structures. Usually due to gravity, most of the spin material sinks to the bottom of the sample which limits the use of new structures. This invention provides ΓÇ£flexible coatingΓÇØ which allows for coating at any angle and with two or three rotating axes.
- Detailed Technology Description
- This this invention relates to an apparatus for spin-coating micro- or nanoscopically corrugated surfaces, wherein the substrate to be coated is rotated (or ΓÇÿspunΓÇÖ) about a first axis and revolves about a second axis. The result is that a coating solution applied to the surface of the substrate: (1) moves outwardly along the surface of the substrate under the centrifugal force generated by the spin rotation; and (2) moves away from the substrate surface, against the force of gravity under the centrifugal force generated by the revolution.
- *Abstract
-
Spin coating has broad applications in different areas, including organic electronics, but it has some limitations. For example, spin coating does not work properly for high ratio structures. Also, commercial spin coating utilizes one axis and its rotating axis is perpendicular to the earth. This leads to stock coating material at the bottom of the sample.
