B-15 Gene Technology Enhancing a Number of Panicles
- Technology Benefits
- ΓùÅ Can enhance the crop yielding by increasing the number of grains.ΓùÅ Proven transformation experiment with efficacyΓùÅ No gene modified
- Technology Application
- ΓùÅ Increasing yields of riceΓùÅ May apply to other crops such as wheat and corn
- Detailed Technology Description
- The allele, OsSPL14 (Squamosa Promoter Binding Protein-Like 14) also known as IPA1, is expressed highly in the reproductive stage and promotes panicle branching and higher yield in rice. . By transforming OsSPL14 into a typical japonica rice variety, the researchers also have succeeded to increase almost 80% in the number of branches.
