*Abstract
iMHere (internet-based Mobile Health and Rehabilitation) is an advanced platform for mobile telehealth applications. The platform consists of a smartphone Application Suite and a web-based portal. The Application Suite is intended for patients while the portal is designed for clinicians to enable remote management of the smartphone apps and for monitoring telehealth services. The iMHere Application Suite consists of several apps designed for specific tasks (medication, exercise monitoring, etc). Through the portal, clinicians will be able to remotely review patientΓÇÖs data and provide support by pushing information to the smartphone apps. The iMHere apps will include the capabilities for imaging (for example for wound care), and videoconferencing (for example for job coaching).The smartphone apps are connected to the portal through a secure two-way communication channel using an XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) protocol. The communication channel provides a seamless store-and-forward mechanism that operates at near real-time. This unique feature improves the reliability of store-and-forward mechanism by ensuring information delivery even at the event of lost connection, while at the same time allowing a patient to use the smartphone as an independent application. To ensure security, the authentication process will require a combination of the deviceΓÇÖs phone number and the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. Only devices registered on the iMHere Portal will be able to connect to the Portal. A secure communication channel is established after successful authentication process. The AI will then present its network availability for communication to the portal.Advantages* The iMHere platform is the only smartphone telehealth application that uses an apps-and-portal approach. Other apps are usually local apps running on a specific smartphone (iPhone app is an example).* The iMHere AI provides an efficient and versatile combination of portal connection and independent application (it always synchronizes with the portal in near real-time, yet does not require constant connection). This allow patient to use the apps as independent apps and does not require extensive resource in maintaining constant communication with the portal.* Imaging and videoconferencing capabilities * iMHere is an extensible platform for various telehealth applications. Adding new apps is simple.* iMHere is designed for multi-smartphone platforms (Android, iPhone, and Windows)* A secure, integrated telehealth platform that works on smartphones and wireless connections.Stage of DevelopmentThe development of a number of iMHere core components has been completed, including the iMHere Application InterfaceΓÇÖs Remote Access Module. The Imaging and Videoconferencing Modules are yet to be implemented. The imaging module will be implemented soon, while the videoconferencing will not be implemented until Version 2.0. Several apps have been developed using this platform, including Medication, Bowel Movement Tracking, Skin Care, and DoctorΓÇÖs Visit. On the portal side, the iMHere Portal Framework has been partially implemented, while the design of the clinical portal and the development of the Spring Framework Interface are under way.
