This is a method to produce genetically stable and maker-gene free transgenic-rice plants by using co-transformation and PCR-based genetic analysis of progeny lines. By combining the genetic analysis with an expression analysis at protein level, researchers have extended the usefulness of this methodology to obtain stable and homozygous transgenic lines within short periods. Including the development of CII peptide-transgenic rice lines with both genotypic and phenotypic stabilities and the evaluation of transgenic rice seeds on accumulation efficiency and immune-modulation potential of the peptide-fusion protein. Transgenic rice seeds steadily accumulated CII and oral administration of the seeds revealed a tendency of suppressing and delaying the IgG2a response against type II collagen in DBA/1 mice.
