Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new and promising method for the treatment of cancer. However, developing an effective method for selective targeting of PDT-dyes has proved difficult. The invention suggests a novel method for significantly inreasing selective localization of PDT dyes, and identifies specific compounds to be used. For breast cancer, targeted PDT could possibly be most effective in early stages of malignancy, while for carcinomas of all organs, solid tumors will probably be the best cases, opposed to metastized carcinomas.
